“As a company of actors, the ecclesia performs the drama of the eschaton; it is a communal witness to the reality that another world is possible, characterized by justified people acting justly, thereby being visible “ spec-actors” of God’s justice-making activity.
The church as a theater of liberation is a community that rehearses life in the social imagery of redemption. The performance of the gospel is a witness in which the community is both the object of Jesus’ lordship, the persona salutis, and the actors who extend the logic of missions of the dei personaliainto society. Christian hope, a virtú of the church, involves the expectation of divine action: that God’s dynamic reigning activity within and over a community of liberated sinners creates a present sign of the full eschaton. Christian witness finds concreteness when the ecclesia as the soma of the resurrected Messiah lives by reproducing the Spirited practices of Jesus—pneumapraxis—that mirror the life of a society made righteous and just.”
